Twelve days of festive fun await clients
who celebrate the year-end holidays at
Waikiki Parc, which is planning its sixth
annual Cool Christmas at the Parc. From
Dec. 14-25, guests can experience special
events such as a poolside holiday movie
under the stars, complimentary two-hour
surf and stand-up paddleboard lessons,
shopping deals at nearby Ala Moana Center, discounted manicures and pedicures
at SpaHalekulani, holiday cocktail specials
and complimentary bedside treats. On
Christmas Day, one lucky guest is chosen
as the winner of the hotel’s grand prize: a Waikiki Escape package, good for travel
from Jan. 15, 2012, to Jan. 15, 2013. Waikiki Parc guests have signing privileges at
its sister hotel, Halekulani, across the street. ( www.waikikiparc.com)
Shirley Temple, Bette Davis, Bing Crosby, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Alice
Faye, Edgar Bergen, Harry Owens and Mickey Rooney were some of the
celebrities who vacationed at the Royal Hawaiian from the late 1920s
to the late 1940s. Now the iconic Pink Palace is reliving those visits with
a special exhibit of rarely seen pictures provided by Matson Navigation
Company, whose photographers took thousands of snapshots of the stars
who traveled on its ships and vacationed in Waikiki. Matson built the hotel
in 1927 so luxury accommodations were available both afloat and ashore.
On display until Jan. 31, each image in the collection is presented on large
canvas prints lining the walls of Coronet Lounge, and admission is free.
